Sample Wedding Ceremony

I offer four wedding ceremony packages, the wedding packages are per guest.  Each wedding package is larger than the previous wedding package.  Also, these wedding packages are based on the number of wedding guests, the larger the wedding, generally, it is more formal and have larger wedding parties, thus more time and coordination is involved.  The premium wedding ceremony length is about 20 minutes, a ceremony longer than 20 minutes generally will lose the interest of your audience.  The wedding ceremony package has been refined to include all of the essential parts of a wedding ceremony to stay within a 20 minute time frame.  I have officiated hundreds of wedding ceremonies and have tailored the ceremony packets over time to provide you with the memorable wedding ceremony you envisioned.  Wedding ceremonies that last longer than 20 minutes are predominantly very religious ceremonies.

For the short and sweet ceremony, I arrive and read a standard script, we can make a few changes on site.  The Classic package is a little longer than the Short and Sweet script, this script can be emailed to you for your review.   The premium package gives a couple numerous options in each segment of the ceremony and takes time to go through.  The premium  package provides several suggested wordings in each section, or suggest new wordings or elements of your own.   In short, delete the parts and/or sections you do not want, edit the document, and then email it to me for review and comment.  There are no limits to creating your ceremony.  I also have additional wedding materials, such as more suggestions for wedding vows or wedding readings.  And, of course, I am available for any questions or concerns.  When we are done, your wedding ceremony will be a personal, joyful and memorable event.

The sample Short and Sweet wedding ceremony below provides a glimpse of the types of ceremonies I generally officiate, they are described more as a romantic/contemporary ceremony, or civil/secular.

Welcome to _________________________.  A wedding is a wonderful occasion, filled with hopes, dreams and excitement.  We are here today to celebrate the love that ________and _________have for each other, and to recognize and witness their decision to journey forward in their lives as marriage partners.

Marriage is an honorable estate, not to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly.  You have made a very serious and important decision in choosing to marry each other today.  You are entering into a sacred covenant as life partners.  As when tending flowers in a garden, the quality of your marriage will reflect the effort you put into nurturing this relationship.  You have the opportunity to go forward from this day to create a faithful, kind and tender relationship.  We wish for you the wisdom, compassion and constancy to create a peaceful sanctuary in which you both can grow in love.  ________ and ________, do you understand and accept this responsibility and do you promise to do your very best each day to create a loving, healthy and happy marriage?                                     I do

You have known each other from the first glance of acquaintance to this point of commitment. At some point, you decided to marry. From that moment of yes, to this moment of yes, indeed, you have been making commitments in an informal way. All of those conversations that were held in a car, or over a meal, or between baseball innings – all those conversations that began with, “When we’re married”, and continued with “I will” and “you will” and “we will” – all those late night talks that included “someday” and “somehow” and “maybe” – and all those promises that are unspoken matters of the heart. All these common things, and more, are the real process of a wedding. The symbolic vows that you are about to make are a way of saying to one another, “You know all those things that we’ve promised, and hoped, and dreamed – well, I meant it all, every word.” Look at one another and remember this moment in time. Before this moment you have been many things to one another – acquaintance, friend, companion, lover, dancing partner, even teacher, for you have learned much from one another over these years. Shortly you shall say a few words that will take you across a threshold of life, and things between you will never quite be the same. For after today you shall say to the world – This is my husband. This is my wife.

 , ______. take thee, ________,

to be my wedded wife/husband,

to laugh with you in joy,

to grieve with you in sorrow,

to grow with you in love,

as long as we both shall live.

Wedding rings are symbolic reminders of the unbroken circle of unending love.  Within the safety and comfort of a true marriage, love given freely has no beginning and no end.  Love freely given has no separate giver and receiver.  Each of you gives your love to the other, and each of you receives love from the other.  May these rings serve to remind you of the freedom and power of your love.

With this ring,

I give you my promise to honor you,

to be faithful to you,

and to share my love and life with you

in all ways, forever.

____________________, my best wishes go forward from this day with you.  I wish for you a fulfilling life, rich in caring and in happiness.  I wish for you a gentle and peaceful life that nurtures and comforts you. I wish for you a noble life that reflects your honesty, kindness and integrity.  I wish for you an adventurous life, exploring the fullness of your own and each other’s true selves.

__________& ________, there is a wonderful life ahead of you.  Live it fully.  Love its changes and choices.  Let life amaze you and bring you great joy.   And now, by the power vested in me by the State of Illinois, I witness and affirm your union of love and now pronounce you husband and wife.

You may now kiss the bride/groom or Seal these vows with a kiss.

It is my pleasure to introduce, ___________________________
